Adoption

BHRL is very careful about the homes selected for our dogs. We have the welfare of our Bassets in mind first and foremost. Our dogs have already lost the security of their original homes, and some have been abused, abandoned, or neglected. We need to place them in stable homes where they will be allowed to live out the rest of their lives being loved and well-cared for. Being shifted from one home to another, or to a pound or shelter is confusing and can be very traumatic for the dog, creating behavior problems. For this reason, we look for homes where there isn't a lot of stress.

Over the years, we have developed a few requirements that we've found work for the welfare of both our Basset Hounds and the prospective adoptive family. Our minimum fee for placement and adoption starts at $200, and determined based upon age and cost to us, which goes entirely to meet the cost of health care and other expenses associated with rescuing these lovable dogs. In order to adopt a BHRL dog, the following requirements must be met:

We consider our Bassets to be more than just personal property- we view them as loving, needing, feeling, living creatures who depend upon humans totally for their health, welfare, and existence. Please spend some time evaluating your own lifestyle and situation and be honest with yourself before you decide to own a dog.

Thank you.
